Only mobile phones and tablets will be used for BLE BLE beacon (peripheral) emulation advertising and scanning. The goal is to find out what actually works and where there are problems with BLE advertising and scanning, both in foreground and background. The app will be tested on approximately 10 of the most popular iOS and Android phones and tablets. We want to find out what combination of advertising frequency and length and timing are optimal to increase the likelihood of nearby users locating BLE advertisers, while also minimizing battery usage. In addition, we want to find out whether it’s possible to reliably wake up background apps and have them perform little actions, like querying the advertiser’s GPS and uploading the results to an AWS database server. Part of the test will include uploading fielded geoloc (GPS) data values (one table) and test logs (two tables) to an Amazon Cassandra or MySQL or PostgreSQL/PostGIS server, which you, the developer, will set up on Amazon AWS. The database server will only serve as a repository for test results; the app will not need to get any information from the server. Hide full description
