Please present yourself and your business.

I represent Matt Farnsworth vocal studio.

We wanted to develop an app for singers for different types of voices to reach singers around the world so they can be familiarized with our technique through videos and tutorials also we wanted to increase our online presence.

Explain to what scope extend Droids on Roids was involved in your project.

We presented a brief explanation and the concert to Droids on Roids and collaborated with them when I came to UI and functionality. They gave us great tips, solutions and proposed a lot of the different options that we didn’t envision by ourselves. Droids on Roids ended up developing our app currently available on the App Store MF VOICE, and also created a backend where we can manage all the content currently displayed on the app.

How did you get to meet the Droids on Roids team and what led you to hiring them?

They were recommended to us by a company in Canada that used their services, we had an email intro, then everything was done through Skype and email. We had the chance to meet the entire Droids on Roids team and technicians allocated to our specific project and also all the management team.

There were three main challenges in this project:

1 - Media uploads: the user should be able to upload any amount of media files to any amount of channels – that consumes an enormous amount of memory and network. At the same time, we had to make sure that the app is still responsible while the upload is progressing.

2 - The Loop Display doesn’t have a touchscreen, the user manages it manual with special knobs. So the whole navigation we were developing had to match this device’s characteristic.

3 - Providing API for multiple client apps – iOS App and Display App were supposed to have different features.

Droids on Roids used really efficient tools like Realm or AsyncDisplayKit which covered the database notifications and UI respectively. Additionally, they had to become experts in threading and invent our own Queue of Queues which is an excellent data structure for this use-case

Droids on Roids decided to create their own custom architecture dedicated to Loop Display Ap. They also developed client direct upload flow using AWS services like S3, Lambda and Elastic Transcoder Hide full description

INTERVIEWED BY APPFUTURA ON APR 16, 2018

Please present yourself and your business.

My name is Brian Gannon and I am the co-founder and CEO of Loop. We make a family communication system.

Explain what your project was about.

We needed an iOS app, web backend and some Android work on the device.

Explain to what scope extend Droids on Roids was involved in your project.

Droids on Roids completed the iOS app, backend, android application work on the device and an Android App.

How did you get to meet the Droids on Roids team and what led you to hiring them?

They reached out to me through LinkedIn. Then my VP of software screen them.

    How was their project management?

Outstanding. Very good English. Very professional. Great systems.

What was the budget range quoted for this project?

We were paying on a monthly basis. The total amount was between $200k-$300k.

Was the project completed as expected? Was the time and the budget the same you agreed on?

The project turned out great. Customers love it and the software is very robust. We added some functionality and therefore the schedule pushed out some.

Did you find their expertise up to what you expected? Did they require any kind of training from your end to understand your product?

Yes, their engineers are top quality. My VP of Software ran a big software team in San Francisco and was impressed by their talent. He flew out to them in order to train them up on the product and the intent.

Please highlight the best things of Droids on Roids.

Great project management. Great engineering talent. Great enthusiasm for getting it right.

Is there anything you believe Droids on Roids could improve on?

In the end, we realized that we could both communicate better to make tradeoffs earlier. For example, if a feature would take 4 weeks to complete, we might not include the feature or rescope it to get it out faster. So on this project, we realized it was better to get feedback instead of just throwing it over the wall.
