INTERVIEWED BY APPFUTURA ON FEB 20, 2018
Please present yourself and your business.
Bite App Inc. (Bite) is a C-Corporation incorporated in Delaware and founded in Philadelphia, PA during January 2017. Bite launched its iOS and Android app in October 2017. Its founders are Peter Hwang, Timothy Ko, and David Ko. David and Tim, brothers, were introduced to Peter in middle school by their parents. Bite’s advisor consists of Brice Gumpel, co-founder and COO of Seated; Jason Lee, founder of Rocky Pacific; Nick Petros, VP of Marketing at Rally Point.
Explain what your project was about.
Bite is a food discovery platform that allows users to efficiently choose and share their next meal. As a mobile application, Bite presents items on a restaurant’s menu dish by dish by allowing users to post and read reviews of restaurant dishes rather than general reviews of entire restaurants.
Explain to what scope extend Code Brew Labs was involved in your project.
Code Brew Labs was hired to develop the iOS, Android, and backend from start to finish. Everything on the platform has been developed by a variety of CodeBrew developers.
How did you get to meet the Code Brew Labs team and what led you to hiring them?
We found Code Brew Labs by browsing online for freelance developers. We hired them after receiving quotes from several companies and thought the experience they brought to the table at the price point they offered would be the best fit for Bite.
How was their project management?
Code Brew Labs' project management was satisfactory. At times communication was difficult and extra care than what we hoped for was required to ensure that everyone was on the same page. In large part this could be attributed to having to communicate via phone and some minimal language barriers. If anything were to be improved, I think if Code Brew Labs was a bit more proactive it would have solved many of the issues.
What was the budget range quoted for this project?
$20k for Phase 1. $9k/month for Phase 2.
Was the project completed as expected? Was the time and the budget the same you agreed on?
Though the project was completed as expected, much more input was required than we thought from our end. Further, overall the time to completion was about 1.5-2x longer than we initially thought.
Did you find their expertise up to what you expected? Did they require any kind of training from your end to understand your product?
Code Brew Labs was very competent. If time expectation and communication was improved, everything would have been great. No training required from our end.
At times, we felt like we were hand-holding through the QA process, as bugs caught by the Bite team would require much rework. However, with our limited experience managing a project, this may certainly be the norm. There also seemed to be a noticeable difference in expertise from their mid-level to senior-level developers, both of which Bite worked with throughout the duration of the project.
Please highlight the best things of Code Brew Labs.
Trustworthy, responsive, willing to work extra hours to satisfy the customer, client-first mentality,
Is there anything you believe Code Brew Labs could improve on?
