Gaurav Sabharwal is a Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at Saffron Tech. The company, founded by himself and Vibhu Satpaul in 2008 and has offices in the United States and India. It currenly has over 200 employees. Here’s what Gaurav had to say about his company and the mobile world:
What does your mobile app development company do?
Saffron Tech has been one of the leaders in the field of Web and Mobile App Development. Saffron Tech is a Gold Certified Partner with Microsoft for Custom Application Development. We create Applications for all the popular platforms such as iOS, Android, Web, and Windows. We are a creative business solution provider and have created some really innovative technology-driven applications with the help of AR, IoT, ML, and AI.
What clients have you worked for?
Some of the known brands that we have worked with are PicNut, RealFarm247, TabOn, Rapid Response, Koolin, and many more.
If you had to choose one category, what kind of app do you think is your mobile app development company’s specialty?
We are industry agnostic and have worked in varied industries over the last decade and created applications from Start-Ups to Enterprise Fortune 1000 companies. We have done a lot of work with Healthcare, Logistics, Digital Commerce and Starts Ups both funded and non-funded with some really interesting ideas.
What is the average budget of the mobile apps you develop?
While the pricing depends mostly on the scope of each App. The Applications we do can start from a budget of as low as USD 10000 and can go to USD 200,000 or above.
Do you develop all mobile apps in-house or do you outsource some parts of the process?
We have a team of 200+ which consists of designers, developers, business analysts, team leads, project managers, content writers, digital marketers and more based out of three offices in New Jersey, Florida, and Delhi. We like to keep all our services and solution building in-house. We have different teams focusing on different specialties who work together to deliver a finished product. However, if we find some module or functionality that can not be worked in-house for any constraint, we have extended the network of companies and professionals who work closely with our company that assists us in delivering projects on time. These are our business partners with whom we have strategic relationships and work with each other closely to work on innovative and new technologies.
Which would you say are the best mobile apps that your company has developed and why?
We have done some very interesting work. We sign NDAs with our clients so can't give out a lot of names but if you go through our Portfolio and Case Study you can see some of the works that we are fine to showcase a big pool of work we have done in the past.
Do you prefer to build mobile apps with native, hybrid or web languages? Why?
Mobile apps are widely used right now and they are created only for a specific purpose and thus they provide a seamless performance to the users.
In native, you will have 2 apps specific for platforms i.e. Android and IOS which makes it comparatively faster. Overall performance is also better. On the other hand in Hybrid, we can create one app that works on both Android and IOS. While it is easily compatible, you do not have as much control on the app functionalities which kind of limits Hybrid app’s potential.
We like both platforms to build on, it eventually boils down to the client’s requirement and budget. Each requirement, scale, and industry type will require us to work with different technologies and choose between Native and/ or Hybrid.
Let’s focus on iOS and Android mobile app development. Which are the Pros and Cons of each platform?
I would say the pros and cons completely depend on your requirement and scope. For instance, you want to launch your app where your predominant target users are iPhone users then your obvious choice of the build is an iOS App. As a development firm, you cannot really differentiate between these two platforms as they are the only two platforms that dominate the market (Others that are there like Windows, Tizen, Blackberry etc have very less market share).
In terms of development challenges, I don’t believe there are too many differences that can outweigh one platform’s development over the others. It all boils down to market demand and client’s requirement.
Which one will evolve more within the next 5 years?
Looking at the trends and past data, I can see Android reaching out to more people due to ease of access and affordability. Being an open sourced platform it is going to evolve more, whereas iOS is known for its enhanced security and stability so 5 years down the line iOS is bound to be even more secure and stable. So, iOs and Android both will grow but it’s hard to say one will dominate the other since both have their own USPs that consumers look for.
Which device is the best in the market right now? The one you feel is a must have and why.
This is a tricky question as people have different requirements when it comes to buying devices. So I would try to be a little neutral here and let the consumer choose what works the best for them. Today, most of the companies including Apple, Samsung, Google and more are coming out with devices which are highly advanced in technology and user ability and thus the app experience in all these devices is great. They also keep updating their software which makes the experience even better during the app lifecycle. The companies who are developing the Apps just need to be aware that app development will be an on-going process as there will be software updates and devices updates which would require the application to be worked up to have the best user experience.
And which device do you feel more comfortable developing an app for? Why?
We are comfortable developing for Android and iOS alike. Both these platforms have there pros and cons which we have been mastering over the years. It’s all about evolving with the Technology and Market; very important for a company if they wish to stay on top and provide products and services par excellence.
