What does your mobile app development company do?
Our founder is into mobile development from the days of J2ME, BREW and Symbian. He was one of the first to write technical architecture for multiplayer app on Nokia 3220 in J2M, which was used to write gaming applications like Chess, Pool, Bingo.
Now the situation has changed, there are about a thousand or more companies working on mobile applications, what sets us apart from others is that we don’t do misselling, if your business doesn’t need a mobile app, we won’t push it down your throat just because it is the latest technology. We always explain the client why do they need to go with mobile app or if his requirement is better fulfilled with a responsive web app.
What clients have you worked for?
We have worked for other production houses, retail business, justice department (Judiciary), educational, transport industry with brands like Tata AIA, HDFC ERGO, Religare, Indian Oil, GAIL, ITC and hundreds of small and medium enterprises.
If you had to choose one category, what kind of app do you think is your mobile app development company’s specialty?
Though we have worked on wide varieties of app, still we have managed to write many apps for retail /point of sale systems. Like POSimplicity, Smartmentmenu, Omni POS, etc.
What is the average budget of the mobile apps Key Software Services develops?
$5,000 is the average app budget, though we have done apps costing as less as $1,000 and a few costing more than $100,000.
Do you develop all mobile apps in-house or do you outsource some parts of the process?
As we provide the whole solution not just the standalone app, we have to get images, content, servers and domain name from third parties. At times, we hire subject matter experts to share business logics of complex applications. Having said that we do all the UI, coding and testing in-house only.
Which would you say are the best mobile apps that Key Software Services has developed?
Smartmenu and Smart Waiter, it is a very complex app but it makes it very easy for users to do the tasks in restaurants and cafes. This app has been used by around 300+ restaurants across the globe and helped them make their services fast and with less errors.
Do you prefer to build mobile apps with native, hybrid or web languages?
We have no preference. For us native, hybrid or responsive web apps are just technology platforms. We choose the one which is going to benefit the most the customer we are working for. For example, if a customer is getting users to their app through search engines and only once, it doesn’t make sense to write the native app, as not many users will download multi-megabyte app for a one time use, we rather make a good responsive web app, which will rank them higher on search engines as well as quickly give the information for the one time use.
Whereas if the customer is getting maximum traffic and repeat customers like in case of bank, utility companies or businesses primary based on apps, we will suggest to go for native apps, as this will make data available to end user faster.
Let’s focus on iOS and Android mobile app development. Which are the Pros and Cons of each platform?
Android Pros
Android Cons
iOS Pros
iOS Cons
Having said all this, still the decision to choose a platform is made by seeing which device is most popular in the target audience rather than these limitations.
Which one will evolve more within the next 5 years?
We believe that both OS will continue to evolve for next 5 years. As Android is being used in a wider type of hardware like TV, bulbs, routers, phones and many other electronic devices, we believe that Android will get more and more share of the market.
Which device is the best in the market right now?
I personally like S8 as its size is perfect to hold in hand, yet its curve screen gives it premium looks and set apart from everyone else in the market.
And which device do you feel more comfortable developing an app for?
We are comfortable making apps for all platform and devices, we used to write apps for BREW, J2ME, Symbian, Windows Mobile... which we are not doing anymore. Similarly, right now we are writing applications on mobile mainly for Android and iOS, we are pretty sure that in the future we may be writing apps for devices and OS which are not existing as of today.
