Dima Portenko is a React Native, IOS, Android, Magento development/Lead developer at Interactivated Mobile. The mobile app development company was founded in 2013 by Roy van Eijsselsteijn. It is located in the Netherlands. The mobile app development company has more than 60 mobile app developers and other IT professionals.
In the past, Dima has worked in 2 main directions for companies such as Quickblox.com and Parse.com, their products help you build nice applications without the creation of complicated server side apps. Another direction is 3D development. He has worked in a well-known company that creates medical education apps. Dima was also involved in the 3D engine development for platforms like iOS, Android, OS X. Such experience gave him a better understanding of the rendering process and helped Dima solving performance issues adequately.
Let’s see what Dima Portenko has to say about Interactivated Mobile and the mobile app development world.
What does Interactivated Mobile do?
First of all, we have a great mobile and web development departments. As a result of optimal collaboration, these departments are building high-end web and mobile apps, apps for existing web apps, etc. We love to innovate and are, for example, finalising a beautiful SAAS project for a mobile app that works for both IOS and Android, and connects with various major e-commerce platforms.
What clients have you worked for?
We work for great customers around the world. Some 'cool' names are for example ID&T and Bavaria, 2 multinational enterprise businesses from the Netherlands. But also we have been involved in the app development for companies such as Kiyoh Reviews and Logxstar.com, 2 major players in the e-commerce sphere.
If you had to choose one category, what kind of app do you think is your mobile app development company’s specialty?
Definitely e-commerce solutions. Mobile apps for web shops like Magento, WooCommerce, etc.
Second to e-commerce apps, I would say Crypto Currency trading applications.
What is the average budget of the mobile apps you develop?
10,000 to 20,000.
Do you develop all mobile apps in-house or do you outsource some parts of the process?
We develop our apps in-house but do have strong partners for when we are in need of certain expertise that we don't offer ourselves. In-house has obvious benefits, the people are known with our working policies, companies mindset, never distracted without us knowing about it, etc. The partners we do work with occasionally are in the close vicinity of our own office, making it easy to get their app developers to join at our own office and taking away some of those downsides.
Which would you say are the best mobile apps that Interactivated Mobile has developed?
The greatest one is usually the one ongoing. The React Native app for various e-commerce platforms is the one we are most proud of at this time.
Before the time of Google's (and many other) 2-factor authentication solutions, we had already developed a Multi Factor Authentication app for Android and IOS (Carbonamics). This was a groundbreaking application for that time and had a huge impact for companies that applied it. Giving their employees a quick and reliable, super secure, single sign on for all their applications. Because of all the 2-factor solutions that came shortly after, this application stayed behind closed doors of big Dutch companies and never went to the public marketplaces, very unfortunate. Nevertheless, this is one of the major applications that we are very proud of.
Do you prefer to build mobile apps with native, hybrid or web languages?
We are currently focused on React Native (RN) technology, which allows app developers to create native mobile apps for iOS and Android with one codebase. I often hear from developers who have both experiences with native and RN, that RN is more simple and faster. Also, RN has a ready architectural solution like Redux, so it makes your apps even more solid. On the other hand, there are no limits, if you don't have something in RN, you can always add native code, using Objective-C, Java, etc. All these points speed up development and make your apps more solid.
Let’s focus on iOS and Android mobile app development. Which are the Pros and Cons of each platform?
This is a huge topic which is being heavily discussed ever since the cross platform frameworks appeared. We can talk about Android fragmentation or iOS limitations. But from an app publisher point of view, you definitely want to see your application on both platforms. For mobile app development companies it is very interesting to see which technology evolves fastest and what direction each platform will head into. We feel confident that there is a great future for React Native, obviously, as we focused all our attention in this direction.
Which one will evolve more within the next 5 years?
At this point, I don't see one system beating the other. Even if one company makes something revolutionary, the others will catch up very fast. I see it this way, both platforms are existing together peacefully and they are continually improving each other by competition.
Which device is the best in the market right now?
As a tech guy, I have a passion for innovation. I like the following devices:
And which device do you feel more comfortable developing an app for?
We specialized in the cross-platform development, so it's kind of the same for most of the devices. But there are always some devices that won't work as expected. iOS with limited numbers of devices is therefore more predictable and more comfortable for development.
