Debut Infotech

Gurpreet Singh is the co-Founder of Debut Infotech. The mobile app development company was founded in 2011 by himself and Daljit Singh and is located in Chandigarh, India. The company employs 65 IT professionals and developers.

Gurpreet has 15 years of experience in IT industry and has worked with Fortune 500 companies like Penske and Citibank. He has hold a proven track record of being instrumental in digital transformation and giving technology strategy leadership (Sr. Project Manager/CIO), resulting in developing products with quality and timeline.

Let’s see what Gurpreet Singh has to say about Debut Infotech and the mobile app development world.

What does your mobile app development company do?

Debut Infotech is one of the top mobile app and software development companies with its focus on delivering the best and most cost-effective solutions to their clients globally. Debut Infotech offers different services that include mobile app development (iOS and Android), software development, Laravel application development, PHP web application development and website development.

We take on the ideas of startups and businesses requirements to build quality products. We are a team of Android and iOS (including iPhone and iPad) app developers who strive to improve by the day and take on new challenges. Among our core skills clients can find: design, QA, Core PHP, Cake PHP, etc.

What clients have you worked for?

Our client base includes government bodies, corporates, SMEs and startups. A few of the major ones are: HDFC Bank, KFC, DocuSign, Brick Road Media or Get Licensed.

We have also served startups like ZoneTail and Ivory (Singapore) who have in turn secured a good seed funding through the MVPs and prototypes that we built for them.

If you had to choose one category, what kind of app do you think is Debut Infotech’s specialty?

Our team has got expertise across varied domains like Education, Retail, Finance/Banking, Social, Fitness, ECommerce, B2B and B2C Marketplaces, Auction, Real Estate, Fleet Management, IoT, BLE and so on. It’s really difficult to point out a single category from amongst these.

Having said that, we do enjoy a stellar reputation in building applications which have social networking components like profiles, real time chat, picture/audio/video gallery, news feed, GPS based location tracking, friends and followers, like/dislike, vote, comment, etc. associated with them. The reason behind it is that we have developed in-house components for these various elements. So, when a new client comes in with a similar requirement, we can offer them a real fast solution which is totally bug free and at a very attractive price.

What is the average budget of the mobile apps you develop?

Our clients vary from large business houses who have a multi-million dollar budget to startups who are willing to spend an early five figure sum to test waters. Thus the average varies depending on the client type.

For Large Corporates, the project range is from USD 50K – USD 250K. For startups and SMEs, the project range is from USD 10K – USD 30K.

Do you develop all mobile apps in-house or do you outsource some parts of the process?

All development work is in-house. We have dedicated full time resources who work in sync to realize the client’s dream to reality. I firmly believe that working together under one roof helps eliminate the communication barrier and results in a more optimized product.

Which would you say are the best mobile apps that your company has developed?

We have worked with brands like KFC or Docusign, but recently we have developed an app for an entrepreneur from Panamá. We have developed an on-demand hiring product where we have implemented Google Tensor Flow for Artificial Intelligence. The key achievements for this product were:

  • The client received $200k seed funding.
  • The product is developed for Hospitality industry to hire the staff quickly and efficiently. Features include real time chat, screening candidates, online interview scheduling and payroll.
  • 40,000 users registered within the first 3 weeks.
  • Big brands like Subway, KFC, Chilly's, Pizza Hut or DQ are using this platform.

Do you prefer to build mobile apps with native, hybrid or web languages?

Before we dive into depth of Hybrid vs Native mobile apps, there’s one aspect of mobile that we need to understand. Nobody has time for a bad user experience. It means that the apps need to load quick and smooth.

Native applications have the best performance, highest security and best user experience but the development cost is higher compared to hybrid app development.

On the other hand, when launching a Hybrid application, that app is platform agnostic. That’s one of the main appeals of a Hybrid app: you build it once and then you release it across multiple platforms. The problem with Hybrid platforms are their style guidelines, they are simply too different and the performance is not up to the users expectations.

Based on clients feedback and our technical experience , we recommend native technology for app development.

Let’s focus on iOS and Android mobile app development. Which are the Pros and Cons of each platform?

Each platform is good in its own different ways. iOS offers less device fragmentation in comparison to Android. In Android, a mobile app developer has to tackle the multi-device fragmentation which makes it a little more intricate in terms of development and testing. iOS allows less modifications and hence bounds the innovation of the developer. It is however much more secure and it is next to impossible to publish a bad app to the iTunes Store.

Which one will evolve more within the next 5 years?

iOS and Android are the two largest players in the mobile industry since the beginning. iOS has always been about simplicity and excellent user experience. On the contrary, Android has always been concentrated on giving the users raw power and performance.

We have got equal share of both type of users right now but at times they vary depending on the geographic location in question. For example in US, you may find more iOS users where in the Asian continent you will get more users using an Android device. So, if you are looking to build a single platform app, you need to be sure of your target audience first and foremost.

Which device is the best in the market right now?

In Android, One Plus 5 is awesome, It comes with 8GB of RAM on board and has one of the best smartphone cameras in existence.

And for iOS, iPhone 7 is on top. Dual rear cameras delivers true 2x optical zoom, 3D camera with cool portrait mode. The battery lasts longer and it is water resistant. It is fast and has bigger storage options (includes 256GB model for serious photographers).

And which device do you feel more comfortable developing an app for?

We are comfortable with all of them. I don’t see any inclination towards a specific device in our development team.
