After almost a year, we got back in touch with Apptunix and Nikhil Bansal. Let’s learn more about the new app projects, the app development company experience and the advice he has for app owners and startups.

Your last interview was published in 2016. What great apps has Apptunix been working on since then?

There are a number of apps we’ve created since our last interview. Intraboom, Powercore 360, We Ad Goods, HomeUpLink, Future Foundation, Dime, Tocali or Diyar to just name a few. We’ve worked on a number of Social Media and Real Estate apps in the past one year.

Which mobile app has been the biggest development challenge for your mobile app development company?

I’d say Android app development is quite tricky compared to iOS. The reasons are quite obvious. The biggest challenge relates to the software/hardware fragmentation. There are many Android OS out there and to say that almost every Android smartphone user uses the most recent OS would be a huge misconception. So the mobile app developers have the challenge of considering the needs and requirements of every OS to ensure that their apps render a fluid and uniform experience all around. That’s easier said than done.

The same goes for hardware fragmentation. You look at the number of Android powered smartphones and there doesn’t seem to be an end to the list. In fact, it’s only increasing. That throws another challenge to the Android app developers with regards to the screen sizes, keyboard design and camera buttons.

What do you think will be the biggest smartphone release this year?

We got to see a glimpse of Apple’s much hyped iPhone X on their 10th anniversary. If that excitement is anything to go by, we can be sure Apple’s sales team can find their hands full.

The iPhone X does have a lot to look forward to. It’s got a full feature, a reinforced glass design, support for wireless charging and it boasts a super retina resolution. iPhone X will also have facial recognition feature to unlock the device.

Besides smartphones, what mobile device do you think is worth having first?

Besides smartphones, the 2 in 1 laptops that are convertible into tablets are quite handy to have. The smartphones themselves are quite powerful, and they keep breaching more and more barriers giving users the power to do more.

But there are times when a bigger screen and a typing peripheral is more desirable. From blog-writing to trying your hands at some creativity tools, tablets with a comparatively larger screen get the job done giving you both portability and productivity in one.

How has the mobile market evolved since our first interview?

Nice question, and one I do lose my sleep over some times. The mobile market has just become more competitive. Apps are rolled out in their tens and thousands each week and month all around the world. For every type of app there will be scores of alternatives available on the Play Store.

Earlier we had clients who’d come to us and describe their app idea, which related to solving a key problem faced by their customers. But that’s changed a lot in the past one year. People who invest in mobile apps now try to keep their budget high these days in an attempt to encompass all the possible features it can have in one. There’s a risk of audience-generalization with that approach and would decrease the competition resulting in lesser quality mobile apps.

Mobile apps evolve too, their features change depending on the device used. What kind of app has a greater future ahead?

Tablet and smartphone apps are obviously right on top with both popularity and evolution and I expect that trend to continue in time to come. Wearable apps have no doubt huge potential and have been successful in procuring a loyal following. It’s still early times for wearables, they haven’t really matured and are far from gaining the kind of popularity that we see with mobile devices. Same could be said of the IoT and car apps.

Is Apptunix adapting to new technologies and devices coming along?

Yes, Apptunix is always adapting to the prevailing technologies and devices in the mobile world. I believe there’s no other way than to stay competitive. The customer’s demands are quite volatile and they really stop at nothing to see their ideas coming to reality. That’s only possible with the newer programming languages.

Our iOS team is working with Xcode 9 for a few ongoing projects. Xcode 9 offers a much improved development framework for the mobile app developers. Newer Refactoring systems, an all new Code Editor, Real time app testing and GPU are some of the most welcome additions.

What advice would you give to anyone with an app idea who didn’t know how to get started?

It’s a harsh reality that some of the most wonderful app ideas don’t even get to see the daylight. That has all to do with poor implementation and poor planning altogether.

Most clients with app ideas are unsure at the beginning as to who they should ask for help. I’d recommend them to share their ideas with as many people as they can. Yes, the the fear of being robbed of your idea is always there at the back of everyone’s mind but it’s better to let it out than keep it to yourself. On the bright side, all the good advice from friends and consultants can provide the needed motivation to move forward with the app idea.

We at Apptunix are always encouraging people to come to us and discuss their app idea. It doesn’t cost anything to discuss but could change fortunes if you apply it well.
