Mobile World Congress 2018: what to expect?

Next week, the Mobile World Congress 2018 will take place in Barcelona. AppFutura will be back at this year’s edition and we welcome all mobile app development companies and people with an app development project to visit us at our booth. You will find us at Hall 8.1, booth A63.

What to expect at Mobile World Congress 2018 edition?

Four days of Congress. One previous day of keynotes. A total of 5 days to showcase the newest technologies on the mobile ecosystem. But what will be the major technology? What is the key device that will be presented at this year Mobile World Congress? What will mobile app development companies present and what major mobile apps will be launched?

Most expected devices

Samsung Galaxy s9

Last year, Samsung did not present the Samsung Galaxy S8 at MWC 2017. Instead, the Korean giant waited some months for their own keynote. Now, the company is expected to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S9.

The rumors expect that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be very similar to the Galaxy S8 as the design matters. Talking about the screen, a 5.8-inch Infinity Display as well as an edge-to-edge screen.

Nevertheless, the most expected function will be the new camera, which is expected to be a 12-megapixel dual-aperture sensor. The main ability will be to capture super slo-mo footage as well as super low-light photos.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium 2

The new phone by Sony. Expected to be the best phone of the company with a Snapdragon 845 chipset as well as 6GB of RAM. The new Xperia XZ Premium will also have a dual-lens rear camera and stereo speakers at the front.

Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact

The company will also probably be launching a new version of the recently launched Xperia XZ, which arrived back in September. However the last launch is still quite recent, some rumors suggest it will be presented during the Mobile World Congress.

Nokia 9

A water-resistant metal body will be one of the features of the new Nokia 9, the company’s new device after the Nokia 8, which was not a key factor against competitors. As the Sony Xperia XZ Premium 2, the Nokia 9 will have also a Snapdragon 845 chipset, this one though with from 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM. And a key element, an iris scanner, like the Face ID on Apple’s iPhone X.

Huawei Watch 3

There are no rumors at all. But last year Huawei presented the Huawei Watch 2, so it is quite obvious that the company will also launch the new version of this watch during the Mobile World Congress 2018.

Some patents talk about touch-sensitive bezels divided into eight sections. It is expected that you could press on the back of your hand which later it will be shown on the smartwatch screen.

Other rumors

A folding phone: It is not a product at all and it is not sure it will be launched during the Mobile World Congress 2018, but it will be the major novelty at this year’s MWC. If any company finally presents a folding phone, it will be a game changer towards future.
