Top app development companies interview: Siddhartha Kongara - Riktam Technology Consulting

Published on Dec 17, 2014 in App Development

Siddhartha Kongara is the Director of Riktam Technology Consulting. The company, founded in 2008 by himself, Prasad Kancharla and Siddharam Shingshetty, is based in Hyderabad, India, and employs 65 people.

Siddhartha worked in a variety of sectors (Electronics R&D, Travel, Consulting, Consumer goods...) in India, Singapore and the United Kingdom before funding Riktam. Here's what he had to say about his company, the work they have been doing so far and the mobile world:

What do you do?

Riktam is a professional and experienced mobile app specialist, with over 200 projects completed so far. Projects have ranged from enterprise apps to handle entire business processes to mobile games, from social projects to location based apps to photo printing apps.

Our favorite work tends to be when we work with startups – our clients include individuals with a great idea as well as Bay Area startups with top notch credentials and funding. Working with startups is always exciting and challenging. It requires a different mindset and approach, and a lot of flexibility to match the evolving needs of the startup. Our team members become a lot more personally involved in the startup projects they are working on, which makes for a great work environment.

We work on all types of mobile projects but a key area of specialization is connected apps that send or receive data from servers and allow for interaction between users. And because we have a in-house web development team, we are able to offer our clients an end-to-end solution under one roof.

Which would you say are the best apps you have developed and why?

Krrunch Time by Pringles is a multi-game app developed for Pringles in Singapore featuring 33 games for different audiences. Nationwide leaderboards and weekly prizes for top point scorers, as well as automatic skinning based on season and festivals. This app rose to #2 on the app store within one week and remained on top for several weeks.

Vendle is party and event finder app for Australian audiences. Beautiful looking app available on Android and iOS allows users to find nearby bars, clubs and entertainment venues, find out whats going on, obtain vouchers and deals as well as rate. Venue owners can manage their venue profile at any time.

Findbus@Hyd is a free community service app that came out of our in-house program called “15%”, in which our employees work on projects and causes dear to their heart. FindBus is a free app that helps bus commuters in the city of Hyderabad to find the best combination of buses to take to their destination, and has garnered more than 10,000 downloads in a couple of months.

Which apps would you have loved to develop and why?

Whatsapp would have been a great app to have worked on. The engineering behind building something at that scale, and yet as responsive as Whatsapp is, is phenomenal. We are building something similar though, and soon you will hear all about it!

Which are the 5 apps you use the most on a daily basis?

Gmail, Calendar, Whatsapp, Trello and Hangouts.

Which mobile device is the best in the market right now?

The Google Nexus 5 is pretty good. Offers a great balance of endurance and performance, gets the very latest versions of Android immediately and in its unadulterated form. All this at a great price.

What kind of device/platform will be the next big thing?

Wearable computing is coming in sooner than later. Augmented Reality, in the sense of you having an information overlay on top of what you sense all around you, is definitely going to be the next big thing. In that sense, Google Glass is the closest thing to that future right now, much more so than the sundry smartwatches that are the rage currently. Power density and bandwidth are going to be the big barriers that need to be overcome.
