After a year, we got back in touch with Max Desyatykh, CMO at Redmadrobot.
Your last interview was published on 2015. What great apps have you been working on since then and what are your biggest plans for next year?
Since April 2015 we’ve made 3 major releases with new clients. The first one is a self-service app for an insurance company. It's a full-fledged personal dashboard and command center for all the insurance policies of the user. The app is one of a kind on the market and we already see interest in similar solutions from other insurance companies.
The other two apps were the first iterations of the mobile loyalty systems for the biggest retailers. And of course we continue our work with existing clients and constantly improving their apps. We have plans to expand functionality of all these further next year.
If you had to choose one category, what kind of app you think is Redmadrobot’s specialty?
Well, actually we specialize in 3 main categories: financial instruments (mobile banks Otkritie Bank, Life Bank and various enterprise solutions), self-service apps (My Beeline, AlfaStrakhovanie Mobile) and personal accounts. Mobile loyalty systems are becoming the next big thing for us on the edge of 2015-2016.
Do you prefer to work with native language, hybrid or web?
We develop native apps only. In the mid-2015 we started to offer complex mobile and web project development to our clients.
Which app has been the biggest challenge for Redmadrobot?
My Beeline became the project that pulled us up to the whole new level 3 years ago. While working on this project, we were forced to change almost every aspect of the company’s operation in order to live up to the high standards of our partner (Beeline is one of the Top 3 telecom operators in Russia) and prominently increased our skills. We just couldn’t afford to fail. Since then many processes in our company were overviewed, implemented and improved. Now we can call ourselves one of the most “mature” developers on the market, and we can compete with the standards of Forbes 500 companies not only in Russia, but also in Europe and the US.
Last time we spoke, you said “ In one case Microsoft platform is the best option, in others Apple or Android can bring more benefits”. A lot has happened since then. What would you say is the best system now?
Still nothing to add here :) Each system has it’s own pros and cons.
What do you think will be the biggest smartphone release in 2016 and why?
Honestly, we do not care what will be “the biggest smartphone release in 2016”. Why should we? We will take into consideration any good smartphone that will be released in 2016 and beyond, no matter who's the manufacturer. But we will work with the most popular ones so that our clients can reach their audience the best possible way.
Besides smartphones, what mobile device do you think is worth having first?
Tablets, obviously. There is nothing unusual here. Tablets almost displaced PCs and laptops in many scenarios and this trend is to be continued in the next 2-3 years.
What do you think mobile devices will be able to do in the future that they don’t do now?
Well, reading minds, I guess? Predictive analysis can do magic tricks even now, and will gain power very soon.
What smartphone feature could you not live without?
Internet access!
Is Redmadrobot adapting to the new technologies and devices coming along?
We’re definitely adapting new technologies and devices. If you don’t do this, you fall behind. This is how it works :) Thinking at least one step forward helps us suggest different ways to improve clients’ products for upcoming market demand.
What advice would you give to anyone with an app idea who didn’t know how to get started?
Cheapest is the dearest. Look for a solid and trusted developer with good skills, one that can understand your business goals and has relevant expertise. Working with the best will allow you to create the project you will not only want to have, but to be proud of.
