Maheep Gupta is the founder of OCDLAB. The company, founded in 2009 by himself, has offices in the USA, Switzerland and India, and employs 48 people. Here’s what Maheep had to say about his company and the mobile world:
What do you do?
OCDLAB specializes in enterprise web and mobility solutions. Our primary clientele is B2B but we take B2C market equally seriously. The last 2 years we have started expanding into other spaces like IoT (Internet of Things) and enterprise services.
These include solutions for salesforce, zendesk and servicenow. The response has been phenomenal and we can see that the future is all about platform as a service and a connected world.
Which would you say are the best apps you have developed and why?
This is kinda difficult to pin point at 1 or 2 apps as our best works. We take a lot of pride in our work and we try to make sure that every new app we do is better than previous one. In fact, I think that is the biggest value proposition we offer to our clients. We are not just a follower to what they ask for, but instead, we try to polish the concept, come up with innovative ideas to make it better and marketable. One of the recent apps I like a lot is a game called “Staying Alive” This is an accelerometer driven endless running game. The whole idea is very new and unique and I hope users will like it too.
Which apps would you have loved to develop and why?
Every now and then, I see some apps which are done very nicely. I feel really good to be part of this awesome technology world where people are doing such a great job for changing lives. One of my all time favorite app is “Hotels Tonight”, for its simplicity and ease of use.
Which are the 5 apps you use the most on a daily basis?
Skype, Slack, Waze, Future Scheduler, Staying Alive.
Which mobile device is the best in the market right now?
To be honest, I have always been a huge fan of Blackberry and I felt so bad that they didn’t change with time. I really wanted their new devices to be successful but I guess it is too late now. I wouldn’t consider any of the current mobile devices as best but if I have to choose one, I would pick iPhone 6 any day over other mobile devices available in market.
What kind of device/platform will be the next big thing?
I think it is going to be something in wearable space. The current solutions out there are still not up to the mark and there is a lot more which needs to be done. However, future seems very promising. In my head, an ideal device would be a combination of a wearable device (it can be glasses or watch or anything else for that matter), AR and real word objects. Something where you could use real world objects such as a wall or a white board or even a table top to project or input to your device.
The other fascinating area is IoT. If you think about it, the whole idea of a connected world makes a lot of sense. Connect homes, cities, classrooms.. it will take up the productivity and comfort to next level.
