A special tribute to the 10 years long journey from iPhone to iPhone 8

Phew!! 10 years successfully covered.

Apple has decked up for its 10th anniversary celebrated on January, 9th. The whole world stood witnessing the many eventful milestones the company crossed over during its tenure and all the accolades won each time a new innovation added to its signature model iPhone.

Never did Apple fail to surprise the followers around the world and had always stood strong through the many thunderstorms of criticisms thrashed on its face especially the moments during which it was drawn to a comparison with its arch rival Google. Amidst the assessments, Apple continued to retain its elite status with elegant performance excellence.

Fluper, one of the leading iPhone application development companies, has taken this opportunity to extend a special tribute to Apple by briefing on the journey determined for 10 years with special reference to the different iOS versions and iPhone devices launched so far, ending with the latest version expected to be out for Apple users sometime this year.

Year 2007

Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc., took almost three years to present to the world its very first model of iPhone after months of speculations.

The company launched its first version of iPhone operating system (iOS), also known as iPhone OS 1 or OS X, which was based on its Mac OS X kernel giving rise to the first concept of touch screen omitting the concept of external keypad popular in Nokia and Motorola handsets back then. Not a perfect model by Apple’s standard but definitely the first of its kind compared to the popular Blackberry and Nokia sets, featuring:

  • 3.5-inch capacitive touch screen display
  • Corning Gorilla Glass technology for strength and scratch resistance
  • Oleo phobic coating to prevent loads of fingerprints
  • Measured in 11.6 mm thickness, weighing around 135 grams
  • Aluminum back panel used
  • Carrying a resolution of 320x240 and the 163 ppi pixel density

The device was reinvented with iPhone 2G supporting the previous version features such as Visual Voicemail, multitouch gestures, HTML email, Safari web browser, threaded text messaging and YouTube along with ‘Copy and Paste' option newly added with extended versions of the operating system in OS2 that earned a million dollar profit for the company within first five quarters of its release.

Year 2008

iPhone 3G was released at WWDC scheduled on 9th of June the same year introducing new features ranging from GPS with turn by turn navigation, 3G to UTMS or HSDPA were included in the upgraded operating system versioned at iPhone OS 2.0.

Year 2009

This year witnessed the dawning of third generation iPhone named as iPhone 3GS with ‘S' defining speed, first announced on June 8th, 2009, in the United States. The improvement was made in the rear camera with 3MP along with video recording capabilities.

Year 2010

The 4th generation of Apple smartphones made to the world market, officially launched on June 7th at the annual WWDC. The hardware changed remarkably with iPhone 4 making it the thinnest of all smartphones in decades. Few notable changes witnessed in this device were:

  • High-end Retina display replaced the former LCD displays
  • FaceTime video chat with front faced camera introduced the first time
  • Operating system upgraded to iOS 4

Year 2011

The 5th generation iPhone 4S gifted the world its very first intelligent personal assistant, Siri, officially launched the 4th of October with a revamped operating system in iOS 5, 8 megapixel rear camera coupled with 1080p recording.

Year 2012

Tim Cook took over Apple Inc. following the tragic demise of Steve Jobs, and he was the mastermind behind the 6th generation iPhone modeled as iPhone 5 officially launched on September 21st featuring lighter aluminum body displaying a bigger 9:16 screen aspect ratio, including the LTE bandwidth service. Unfortunately, the device was discontinued after 12 months due to lack of wide consumer acceptance.

Year 2013

Both the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5S were launched simultaneously in the same year developed with similar hardware to that of its predecessor coupled with polycarbonate cabinet based on iOS 7.

iPhone 5c, available in multi hues and heavier than the prior devices, features LTE antennas with front camera reduced to 1.2 megapixels. iPhone 5S, on the other hand, unveiled ad-hoc Wi-Fi sharing platform termed as AirDrop introducing new Home button with Touch Identification and fingerprint sensors.

Year 2014

Simultaneously launched iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on September 19th, inspired the design of iPad Air with screen bend around edges with retina display and improved battery life incorporated in iOS 8 operating system.

Year 2015

iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus came up with an upgraded system and bigger size, 12 megapixels rear camera, better fingerprint recognition and advanced LTE support integrated into its framework, along with 3D touch recording sales of over 13 million in the first week itself.

Year 2016

iPhone SE, a special edition, was powered by iOS 9 coupled up with a better processor and a rear camera covering features like Apple Pay, live photos and Siri on activation, improving battery life and ease of handling the device.

Likewise, dust and water resistant iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, also launched officially in September 2016 and came with major changes such as eliminating 3.5mm audio jack yet introducing OIS in the camera capable of DSLR quality images.

Year 2017

Considering the series of innovative devices presented in the iPhone, expectations have started piling up with the announcement made at WWDC 2017 conference hinting on the possibility of the latest iPhone version soon to be launched in September 2017. We hope, fingers crossed, that the latest iPhone model is likely to have a full glass body along with wireless charging support features.

This is the tenth anniversary of the iPhone so we believe that Apple will live up to its reputation with iPhone 8’s remarkable performance.

Wrapping up

Gossips are doing their rounds in the news ever since Apple announced iPhone 8 and with the release of the beta version; we have a couple of expectations from the original version lined up:
